Me Made May Competition and Classes

We’re one week into may already and Clair and I have been taking pics of ourselves in our me made garments to keep track of everything we wear – so now it’s time for you to do the same! Last year we celebrated with a giveaway competition to reward those of you who are out there sewing with our fabrics, and this year we’ve decided to do the same again, except we’re going bigger and better!

If you have been busy making your own clothes with any of our fabrics, or making clothes for someone else be they your friend, neighbour, mum, dad, child or grandparent, all you need to do is take a photo of them in your fabulous creation and post it on Facebook, making sure you tag us in the description. Alternatively, you (or your mate) can come into the shop and we’ll take a pic of you to put on our noticeboard and we’ll enter you into the competition that way. Simples!

The options are endless – been on one of our reversible dress classes recently? Show us what you made with the pattern after you learnt the basics from Clair; been inspired by some of our funky patterns to make something for the summer? Crack on with it now and get to wear it and enjoy it during May, as well as being in with a chance to enter the competition. Perhaps you’ve gone home with some of our bargainous vintage fabrics and have knocked up something with a suitably vintagey pattern – get out that camera and show us! All we ask is that the fabric came from us and that what you’ve made is a piece of clothing for a human being. (although, if anyone has made a dog coat or a pair of trousers for a goat out of our fabrics, we would absolutely love to see it, but that would be a different competition altogether.)

So, you’ve made your dress (skirt, shirt, jacket, pyjamas, blouse, waistcoat etc) and you’ve taken a photo and shown it off to us and everyone else – what next? You can either sit back and wait for the end of the month when Clair and I will decide who walks off with the prize of a pattern from the shop, plus enough fabric to be able to make it, or you can carry on sewing! There’s nothing to stop you from entering again – and in fact given that it is Me Made May, we’d really like it if you made some clothes for yourself and then actively wore them. And we’d really, really like it if you thought about signing up for Me Made May officially and made a little pledge about how often you will wear your self made clothes throughout the month – even if it’s just once or twice, or you made one item that you can wear lots like a pair of pyjama bottoms, it still means you are participating and celebrating your sewing skills.

And if you’re looking for a little inspiration, we’ve got plenty of patterns in the shop from Threadcount, Tilly and the Buttons (currently only £10.00 each) and the entire collection from Sew Over It is due to arrive at the beginning of next week – so now you have no excuse not to get making. Feel like you need a little hand holding to get you started? Fear not! There are plenty of classes taking place during May that will get you happy and sewing in no time. Take a look!
