Witches, Wizards, Spiders and Skulls

halloweentable

October is here and Halloween is just around the corner, so this week we’re gearing up for our witchy themed window by showcasing our fabulous Halloween printed fabrics. If you’re planning on making costumes for yourselves or little ones, have some avid Harry Potter fans in your house or simply love a spooky print, you will definitely need some of these amazing fabrics in your life this autumn.

batsspiders

Nothing says Halloween more than spiders and bats, and these super spooky yet super cute little chaps are ideal for kids’ makes – try making some Trick or Treat bags with one of these, and line it with lime green or bright orange for a fantastic contrast. Check out the Amelie dress made up in the bat fabric in the window soon – it’s lovely beyond words.

spiderwebs

These beautiful spider web prints are so delicate they could almost be lace. Clair has already been making good use of both of them, making them into a kimono dress and an A-line skirt for the window, and they look amazing! But you’ll have to wait until next week to see them in person …

adverts

These adverts for various witch and wizardy style products are brilliant too – designed in an old school newsprint style, they are perfect for anyone with a penchant for unconventional Halloween prints. They’re a bit more subtle than your standard scary monsters and zombies; plus they’re perfect for anyone who loves Harry Potter as they are really very reminiscent of adverts for the shops on Diagon Alley in the Daily Prophet. Bags, cushions, curtains, blinds, quilts – all just the thing if you spend your night dreaming of receiving your Hogwarts acceptance letter by owl.

skulls2

In the same style as the advert prints are the poison skull symbols – in spooky purple and vibrant green – these would make some fantastically spooky pencil cases or more sophisticated Trick or Treat bags for older gothic-loving kids. Or you could go all out and make a full skirted dress for a Halloween party perhaps. So many  wonderful yet spooktacular Halloween options! (I am planning on making some knitting needle and crochet cases out of these, because I can then pretend they’re actually wand cases.)

We’ve also got appropriately spooky colours of wool in bright orange, zingy green, purple and grey if you fancy knitting or crocheting a mummy, some pumpkins or knitting a Halloween jumper.

All our Halloween prints are available in the shop now, priced £14.50 a metre – the mixed plains are £6.50 a metre.

New Fabrics Galore

caterpillar

It’s been a while since we told you anything about our new fabrics as we’ve just had so many other exciting things going on: the kids’ craft club, the Halloween birthday party (only two days to go!) and all our new classes. But today since many of you will be taking some time off work to hang out with the kids over half term, we’re giving you the chance to take a sneaky peak at our most recent deliveries and get your fingers itching to do some wintry inspired sewing.

As anyone who has been into the shop recently will know, we do have plenty of Halloween and Christmas fabrics in stock for those of you who want to crack on with seasonal makes; but we’re also aware that many sewers and crafters still want to carry on making other things at this time of year, and not everyone wants to include Father Christmas fabric in their autumn winter wardrobe. So in a little reprise from all the pumpkins and stockings, here are some of our new and exciting, but also quite grownup fabrics.

circles

Gorgeous circles and spiral designs in warm grey, rich green and calm beige – we’re thinking purses, bags, pencil cases, but also cushions and possibly curtains.

purples

Beautiful subtle purples, and dinky florals – quite autumnal in feel, but still rich enough to make you feel colourful – good for skirts and blouses; spot on for this season’s colour palette, ladies and gents!

stars

Stars don’t have to be for Christmas – but they also don’t have to be traditional red and white either. Make yourself some alternative festive decorations with these simple stars in chartreuse green, black and warn grey.

textures

Interesting textures don’t just have to come from woven fabrics – we’ve got two of these intriguing woolen designs in stock (perfect for those who still haven’t learnt how to knit) which look like a plain stocking stitch. Plus, there’s a dark brown with faint white and red flecks, that looks like a tweedy sort of fabric, an ideal look for the winter months.

carsanimals

Kids aren’t to be left out of our new season stock as you can see from the main image at the top of the page. These simply lovely Hungry Caterpillar prints are just crying out to be made into anything and everything for babies and young children. Cot quilts, play mats, comforters, fabric books – basically anything you can think of to show off the delightful caterpillar, all his brightly coloured food, and the gorgeous spotty print to match it. We’ve also got our hands on some cute little owls and squirrels in picture frames (there’s nothing better than woodland creatures in rows of ornate frames, we think) and a lovely cars and roads pattern, covered with trees and scenery, which would make a fantastic pair of curtains for a little person’s room.

Don’t forget – our Halloween First Birthday Party takes place 10am – 3pm this Friday 31st October – see you in the shop for cakes and tea, Halloween crafts for kids, felt badge making for grownups, and plenty of spooky decorations for sale!

Halloween Birthday Party

pumpkinsfabric

You may not have noticed but we’ve been selling our gorgeous fabrics and crafts on Bank Street for nearly one whole year now. Our official birthday takes place on Friday 31st October 2014, so what with it being Halloween and all, we’ve decided to have a suitably spooky birthday party – and you’re all invited!

Head down to the shop on our birthday and you can expect to see all kinds of special events taking place: for a start, any customer who spends more than £10.00 gets to take away a fat quarter of their choice, absolutely free – nothing says Happy Birthday like free fabric we think. Once you’re in the shop, you can take a look at all our Halloween loveliness before popping out the back to indulge in some delicious tea and biscuits, or coffee and cake as the Casey from Lil’ Tea Tank spends the day with us, serving up her fabulous bakes. She will be in residence from 10am – 3pm, keeping out the chill with her tasty hot treats, and helping us celebrate our very first birthday.

feltbadges

If you feel like getting some craft on while you munch on your cake, then fear not – one of our fabulous tutors will be on hand with a drop in felt brooch making class. Grab yourself some colourful felt and a button or two, and get sewing – all for £5.00. Kids won’t be left out on the day either as they will have the chance to make some suitably spooky makes too: choose from spiders, ghosts or Halloween masks made from felt and wool, for just £2.50 per child. And of course it wouldn’t be Halloween without a quick rummage in the treats cauldron on the way out.

If that all sounds like jolly good fun, then please do pop in and join us as we mark our first anniversary – it would be fantastic to have all our loyal customers come and celebrate with us on the day. And in the meantime, you can take a look at our fantastic Halloween crafts in the run up to the scariest night of the year.

headscarves

Perfect last minute dressing up aids like funky hair accessories, and the fantastic ghoulish headscarves from Aye Aye are just the thing to pop on your head and wear to your Halloween party. Modeled by Melissa from Aye Aye herself, and the lovely Casey from Lil’ Tea Tank, who will be here on the day, choose from horns, green brains, and creepy hands all perfect for  stylish yet scary dressing.

accessoriesandbags

If your kids are keen to get out and about in their Halloween best, then kit them out with some Trick or Treat bags in our funky fabrics – made by Lotte Jamieson, these cute bags are spot on for little and not so little children eager to get their hands on their share of sweets.

witchescats

Feel like spooking up your home with something a bit more grownup? These gorgeous witches’ cats also from Lotte Jamieson are just the job for sitting on the sofa or by the fire for your Halloween party. Plus, we’ve got a bumper crop of pumpkins sat in the window, waiting for someone to take them home and make them their own. And as if all this wasn’t quite enough Halloween fare, we’ve got bunting, bats, jewellery and a fantastic selection of spookily themed fabrics for you to make your own crafty creations with.

But most important of all – don’t forget to head our way anytime from 10am onwards on Friday 31st October for our special Halloween themed birthday!

Brand New Fabrics

fq2

We’ve had so much brand spanking new stuff come in over the past couple of weeks that it’s difficult to remember what’s what, but we’ve singled out some of the loveliest bits to show you this week. More delicious fabric has never before been seen in one blog post we assure you. Hold onto your hats people, it’s going to be a roller coaster ride of newness!

First up are these super cute animal prints featuring cats, dogs, chickens, sheep and pigs. Their funny little faces just shout out to be made into bedroom curtains or bags for small people to carry their bits and bobs around with them. Available in blue or white backgrounds, we can see them being loved to death by the under sixes as they point out the different animals and make the appropriate woof or baa noises. Quick chorus of Old MacDonald anyone?

catsanddogs

Butterflies feature in these gorgeous pink, turquoise, peach and yellow patterns from Makower. Ideal for bedding, quilts or decoration of any sort, these butterflies are perfect for grownups and little ones alike.

butterflies

Speaking of grownups, we’re absolutely in love with these domestic goddess fabrics; covered with sewing machines, needles, cotton reels and lovely ladies wearing their trim little fifties dresses, these delightful retro style patterns are fantastic for anyone with a passion for vintage sewing. It makes us want to have another rummage through the vintage pattern collection next to the cutting table again, and see if we can’t whip up a little number by Vogue before teatime.

domestic

More domestic bliss comes courtesy of these handbags and shoes on a bright pink background, and a collection of dinky little domestic appliances – featuring whisks, scales, jugs, colanders, rolling pins and other kitchen paraphernalia.

The cooking themed one would make an amazing patchwork creation with these babies – gorgeous cupcake prints (just sold to a woman to make an apron – good thinking!) and these fifties style baking signs. Just right for a Great British Bake Off fan. All hail Mary Berry, for she will grace our screens once more this August!

cupcakes

And for those of you who like to be really super duper organised, we had our first set of Halloween prints arrive a couple of weeks ago. Lovely little Draculas, ghosts and Frankenstein’s monsters, alongside cheeky black cats and grinning pumpkins – they would make a very cool Trick or Treat bag; and the gloomy grey spiderwebs and boggly eyed spiders are spot on for decorations for 31st October too.

hallooween

As always, all fabrics are priced between £11.00 and £14.00 a metre, with everything available in fat quarters.

Don’t forget – only one more day to use your 10% off voucher!
