Beginner’s Sewing Session – £40.00, age 8+
Have you been inspired by the likes of the Great British Sewing Bee and want to get cracking with your first ever makes? Maybe you haven’t touched a machine in years, but you are keen to get back in the sewing saddle. If so, this is the class for you. Bring along your machine or use one of ours and you can learn to insert a zip, make a pencil case or makeup bag, and a cushion cover.

Beginner’s Overlocker Class – £40.00
Melissa joins us once again to show newbie overlocker fans how to get to grips with this different style of sewing. Tackle sewing with jersey and see how sewing with a stretch material is different from ordinary cotton; learn how to thread the machine, deal with tension issues and see all the different stitches before you learn to make an adult’s t-shirt or some kid’s harem trousers.

Open Sewing Session – £55.00-£85.00
Join Clair for the chance to sew any of our Emporia patterns in this open sewing session. Choose from the reversible dress or shorts for kids, the child’s Amelie dress, the Issey culottes an A-line or simple gathered skirt, a kimono dress or Alice trousers. Prices range from £55.00 to £85.00 depending on your choice of project.

Alice Trousers or Issey Culottes – £85.00
Tthe Issey culottes are a great introduction to trouser sewing. Featuring super wide Japanese style legs, plus a fold down waistband with collar detail at the back, the culottes can be made up in next to no time! Perfect for all year round wear, these style of trousers are all over the high street – so why not make your own pair in your choice of print? Suitable for beginners.

The perfect loose trousers, this simple tapered leg design can be whipped up in light and floaty poplins or cool and crisp cotton prints to make a pair just right for heading out or lounging about in. An excellent introduction to anyone who has never sewn trousers before, the Alice is an uncomplicated pattern that will soon have you feeling confident in your new found sewing skills.

Amelie Dress Class – £65.00
Learn how to make this adorable little girls’ dress in this class with Clair. Choose either  the three quarter length sleeved version, or go sleeveless for a more summery feel. The pattern comes in ages 1 – 6 and the class costs. Fabric is included in the price. Please note this class is suitable for confident beginners or intermediate sewers, not absolute beginners.

Make yourself either a midi or ankle length a-line skirt, designed exclusively by Clair for the Emporia Patterns range. Perfect for all year round, this simple skirt is a great introduction to zip insertion and dressmaking in general. Or make a super simple gathered skirt. This class is the next step on for a confident beginner or those that need a quick refresher as you will draft your own skirt based on your measurements, add a waistband and insert a zip. Choose from our range gorgeous printed fabrics to make a unique garment that fits you perfectly.

Our kimono dress is a nice easy shape to sew and wear – pulled in at the waist for a perfect fit by a Japanese style belt, this dress goes from casual to smart with the change of a few accessories. Choose from our range of funky fabrics to create something perfectly suited to your taste.

Beginner’s Knitting – Irvine Cowl – £40.00
Learn how to cast on, knit (and purl if you’re feeling brave!) and start a simple cowl or scarf to finish off at home. Lotte will take you through the basics and get you started on a project that you will finish in no time as you knit with super chunky wool. Started knitting a long time ago and feel like you need to get back to basics? This class will work for you too!

Knit a super soft and warm pompom hat in this class suitable for knitting learners/improvers. Lotte will teach you a few new techniques such a knitting in rib and shaping, and you’ll whip up your hat in no time on super chunky 15mm needles!

Log Cabin

Beginner’s Patchwork – £75.00
This one off introduction to patchwork is run by renowned patchwork designer Mandy Munroe, and involves learning basic patchwork techniques including colour choice, rotary cutting and sewing blocks using modern methods. On the day you will sew four blocks and gain enough skill in order to continue sewing squares and triangles at home so you can finish off your quilt under your own steam.

Sew and Slash Patchwork – £75.00
Another one off patchwork course with Many Munroe allows you to create a slightly different looking quilt using the same basic techniques. Suitable for beginners, the class allows you time to choose fabrics and create your first block with Mandy, before you finish off the rest at home.

Quilting and Binding with Mandy Munroe – £50.00
Learn the enjoyable art of quilting with expert crafter Mandy Munroe as she shows you the basics in this new session. Bring along your own small project to quilt at the workshop, and learn how to bind off your edges in a traditional fashion too.

Abstract Free Form Cutting – £75.00
Cutting without a ruler to create bold, modern, abstract waves and shapes. Break out of the block! You’ll learn to cut and sew gentle curves creating positive/negative strips. Ideal for intermediates and improvers wanting to try a new style of piecing. This academy workshop was a sell out at Festival of Quilts three years running!

Log Cabin Patchwork – £75.00
Mandy Munroe returns for this classic patchwork class that teaches you how to create a simple but effective log cabin technique. Using the building blocks of traditional quilting techniques, this is a great class for those wanting to expand their patchworking skills.

Planets Quilt with Beth Studley – £65.00
Join our brand new patchwork teacher, quilter and fabric designer Beth Studley as she teaches this exciting new class. Create some gorgeous planet themed blocks from your own scrap collection using a very simple strip piecing technique to build the blocks and curved piecing for the background. Not suitable for beginners.

  7. Hi, just wondering how much a class is to make the a-lined skirt or pillow cover? I can only see kids prices! Thank you 🙂

    • Hi Robyn, the cushion cover is part of the kid’s classes programme we have for the summer – we are just about to relaunch the normal programme of classes complete with prices, which will include the A-line skirt. Keep an eye on the blog for more details!

    • Hi Kristi, please can you let us know which date class you would like to attend and we’ll check if there is space for you and your friend. Once you’ve done that, you’ll both need to pop into the shop and pay a 50% deposit to secure your spaces.
